Officials: EP site free of health risks Some residents worry about pollutants at site of downtown project By Leslie Williams Peoria Journal Star (IL) December 25, 2010EAST PEORIA - The brownfield site where Caterpillar Inc.'s first factories stood is safe for development into a new downtown and does not pose any health threats to the public, officials say. But as passers-by watch the abandoned manufacturing site between West Washington and Camp streets being prepared for a hotel, library, civic plaza and more, worry about underground pollutants have surfaced. City attorney Dennis Triggs said there is no cause for alarm."There is zero concern," Triggs said. "We have people working out there every day, and Caterpillar people worked there for a 100 years." ...
