EPA delays connecting Copley homes to Akron water By Bob Downing Akron Beacon Journal (OH) April 3, 2010COPLEY TWP.: Eugene and Rita Smith are angry and frustrated that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency won't provide an alternative water source to Copley Township residents with contaminated wells near a Superfund site until 2011.
...The couple and neighbors got letters last week from the U.S. EPA that said about 30 households won't be hooked up to Akron water in 2010 as had been planned.
The EPA needs to conduct additional air and water tests and is seeking homeowners' permission to drill holes in yards and basements to determine the extent of the contamination from the Copley Square Plaza on Copley Road (state Route 162) at Jacoby Road, said agency spokesman Sam Chummar in Chicago.
