EPA wants more wells to protect White Lake from effects of old chemical
plant

Hausman Muskegon Chronicle February 27, 2010MONTAGUE -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has proposed a plan it says will clean up groundwater to safe levels within 18 years in the southern portion of the former Hooker Chemical site in Montague Township. It's the first major new cleanup initiative proposed for the notorious site in nearly a decade. The EPA proposes to install an additional six extraction wells to speed the cleanup of the area south of Old Channel Trail and north of White Lake. The wells would be placed north of Old Channel Trail and immediately south of the source areas of the contamination left by the long-defunct chemical factory. ...
