Fuel leak postpones Old Harbor project

The Old Harbor renovation project, which was just getting underway in 
recent weeks, will be postponed until next fall due to gasoline 
contamination discovered by contractors in the soil near south dock last 
week. Town Manager Nancy Dodge made the announcement at Wednesday's Town 
Council meeting.

As of press time neither the extent nor the source of the contamination 
was known; a geoprobe was expected to be on the island Thursday to learn 
more.

"We'll know more about the fuel mitigation costs [Thursday], but it 
didn't seem to just be a trace of gasoline, there was a strong odor," 
said project Clerk-of-the-Works Sam Bird.
