PLAINSBORO: Pesticide cleanup at Forrestal awaits DEP approval By Fred Tuccillo CentralJersey.com (NJ) January 7, 2010PLAINSBORO - State certification of a completed soil contamination cleanup at the future site of The Harmony School at Princeton Forrestal Village is pending with the Department of Environmental Protection, a spokesman confirmed this week. "The NFA (No Further Action letter) is in-house and pending," said Larry Hajna of the department's press office. Issuance of the letter will certify that 22,000 cubic yards of soil contaminated with the pesticide dieldrin has been satisfactorily removed and "remediated." To comply with DEP requirements, the contaminated soil was buried along the edge of Route 1 under 12 feet of clean soil, which was then planted over with grass, according to David Knights, director of marketing for Princeton Forrestal Village, which manages the site for Princeton University. He said the cleanup project had cost more than $500,000. ...
