Old dump still eyed for energy source site By Patrick Cronin email@example.com October 18, 2009 2:00 AMHampton's energy committee is not giving up on its idea to turn the town's old dump into a "greenfield" to one day generate enough alternative energy to power the town's wastewater treatment plant.
Ann Carnaby, chairman of the Hampton Energy Committee, said the result of a recent study on the capped landfill on Hardardt's Way revealed such a project could be done.
"The feasibility study said, yes, you can put either wind, solar, geothermal or a combination of all three on the site to accomplish the goal to power the wastewater treatment plant," said Carnaby. "The only problem is the current net-metering laws in the state are not favorable enough for such a project to be economically feasible."
Rather than give up on the project altogether, Carnaby said the committee intends to lobby lawmakers to see if the laws can be changed.
