Bay City approves Brownfield Plans for two new downtown developments Ryan J. Stanton The Bay City Times (MI) June 4, 2009Bay City officials have signed off on Brownfield Plans for two new developments proposed for construction downtown. With approval from the city, the Bay Area Family Y and the Social Security Administration can apply for Brownfield Michigan Business Tax Credits. Their requests now go before the Michigan Economic Growth Authority for consideration. Michael E. Brandow, Bay City's economic development project manager, said approval of the Brownfield Plans are important for both projects to move forward. "There's a level of contamination on both sites over above the threshold allowed by the DEQ and so this allows them to do some actual remediation where it's absolutely necessary," he said. "Otherwise these projects don't get done and you have these dormant and orphaned Brownfield sites." ...
