TCE vapors a concern at plaza
DEC expands Vestal test zone

VESTAL -- More work to block vapors from underground pollution is needed 
in a plaza on the Vestal Parkway occupied by a fitness center and 
several businesses, based on recent tests by state environmental officials.

Additionally, officials from the state Department of Environmental 
Conservation are seeking permission to collect samples by March 31 from 
five more properties to the northwest, in the area of King and Birch 
streets. The tests are needed to see whether indoor air is being tainted 
by trichloroethylene (TCE) fumes coming from under the plaza at 1808 
Vestal Parkway.

The site, which houses American Family Fitness, was converted from 
Hidden Valley Electronics, which made electrical components from the 
mid-1960s until 1995.
