Honeywell seeks brownfield status for old factory site

Tampa, Florida – The building’s been vacant for a decade and the property polluted for 24 years. So is there finally new life for this old Honeywell plant? People who live around the corner sure hope so.

Honeywell has been cleaning the West Waters Avenue site since 1983. Company representatives say it's taken so long to finish the job, because Honeywell never owned the land. Now Honeywell does own the property and is marching forward with its cleanup plans.

But the giant corporation also wants the state's help in the form of tax breaks and to qualify for those incentives, Honeywell needs county commissioners to label the 21 acres a brownfield site.
