[CPEO-BIF] BF 2003 Call for Ideas--- EJ/Community Caucus

Brownfields 2003, sponsored by U.S. EPA and several other organizations,
including the Center for Public Environmental Oversight (CPEO), will
take place October 27-29  in Portland, Oregon. For this year’s  event,
organizers are trying to expand the range of topics presented at the
conference and are encouraging people to submit ideas for panels,
debates, and less formal dialogue sessions.   This is a good opportunity
for community-based groups to make their voices heard and to help
influence the themes of the conference.   For more information about
Brownfields 2003 and to submit your ideas please follow this
link:www.brownfields2003.org.   The deadline for submission is June
17th, but don’t let the timing put you off.   If you would like to
submit an idea for a panel, but need more time to get it down on paper,
contact Julie Pearson of ICMA by June 17th and let her know that you’ve
got an idea in the pipeline.  Her contact information is
JPEARSON@icma,org or 202-962-3674.  She is coordinating the conference’s
“call for ideas” effort.

CPEO will once again convene the National Environmental
Justice/Community Caucus at Brownfields 2003.  As most of you know, the
Caucus brings together people who live and work on or near brownfields,
to discuss ways that impacted communities can protect their own health
and environment while influencing development projects or even
initiating projects of their own.  If you think you might wish to attend
the conference and the caucus meetings, please let us know, and we’ll
send you more information.  We might even be able to help you obtain a
travel scholarship.   Please respond by June 30th.
