EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Urban Ecology, Inc.


Urban Ecology, a non-profit membership organization dedicated to the
advancement of urban sustainability, is seeking an effective and
motivated leader to become its Executive Director. This challenging
position is an excellent opportunity for a person who is an adept team
builder, capable administrator, talented leader, and who can execute
the goals of the organization with passion and vision.

For twenty years, Urban Ecology has been articulating visionary models
and implementing practical alternatives to make cities more socially
just, economically sustainable, and in balance with natural systems.
The organization disseminates these models through publications like
"Blueprint for Sustainability," and its quarterly journal "The Urban
Ecologist," and it implements alternatives through programs like
Community Design Consulting, Sustainable Tours, and the Blueprint
Project. Urban Ecology recognizes that effective solutions require
examination of race, class and social issues, and it is dedicated to
serve as a leading multi-cultural organization, both among its
membership and leadership, as well as among the communities it serves.

The organization is led by a volunteer Board of Directors and
dedicated staff, where personal participation and collective
decision-making have created an extremely effective team. The
Executive Director will be expected to utilize the strengths of Urban
Ecology's teams, while at the same time, provide leadership and
expertise in areas less well developed.

The Executive Director will play a central role on several fronts,
including:

Strategic Planning
Fundraising and Development
Community Relations
Media Relations
Staff Management
Fiscal Management
Operations
Program Development
Program Coordination

The ideal candidate would have appropriate skills and knowledge in the
following areas:

Sustainable approaches to urban development
Urban and regional planning and design
Working with diverse communities and issues
Non-profit management
Fundraising through grants and donors
Membership development
Fiscal oversight on program and operations budgets
Volunteer recruitment and supervision
Oral and written presentations
Group facilitation and interpersonal communication
Building alliances with other organizations

The salary for the position is commensurate with qualifications,
$35,000 to $50,000 annually. Benefits include paid holidays, sick
pay, and two weeks paid vacation. A health insurance package also
will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
